Only Spectacular

Posted by Alice in design lotion

Alice

It's been a long time coming but we recently launched the Only Spectacular website! We created the brand from scratch, from research through to a complete visual identity including online presence, stationary and logo. The site has already had some great feedback, and we're all really pleased with the final product; the slideshows in particular added some real impact to the simple contemporary layout.

So the new Cultural Hub tentcards arrived, and they look pretty snazzy! So snazzy, in fact, that I have one sitting on my desk right now. Photographic evidence:

The Remix Leaflet

Posted by Alice in design lotion

Alice

I just put a new leaflet up in the portfolio that came back from the printers just this morning, and looks great! It's a 4-page leaflet for youth performance company, The Remix. Is it a flyer, is it a brochure?! (We decided on flyer)

Luke Elwes

Alice

We have just uploaded the newly revamped website for artist Luke Elwes. We have been working on this on-and-off for the last few weeks and are pleased with the outcome; the site is content managed so Luke can update it himself. Plus Luke is a great painter; check out his paintings here!

Inside. Outside.

Graphic Design isn't always about sitting in front of your computer.

I didn't say it actually involved leaving the house though.

Lost

Posted by Rob in design lotion

Rob

I've been thinking about what I really enjoy about my job and there are several common things that I like.

  • Being involved from the start, so I can really help shape ideas and get my teeth in to the concept.
  • It has to be unusual and complex, but expressed simply.
  • Something real and exterior to cyber space that's brought in to the design, like photos or paint .
  • Some form of guerrilla action! Like the wave letters , or the growbag on top of a multi-story car park.
This is a small part of a larger idea that has all of the above (more in the new year):

The (Hub)world of work

Posted by Rob in design lotion

Rob

Hubworld is almost upon us and I thought I'd squeeze in an update to my portfolio, something I'm getting less opportunity to do recently...

The design for this project developed quite a lot after the promo image back in January:

Taking the photos on the beach helped focus the concept:

The hub map I produced last year (or as some call it 'the hub brain') has been published in The Journal Of Arts Marketing.

Always nice to see your work published. Hubalicious (the youth web design group I work with) are also mentioned.

Growbags: Solo Design Insanity

Posted by Rob in design lotion

Rob

I've just been updating my portfolio with recent work. A large chunk of what I've been doing recently is for a project called Growbags.

Growbags are performance scratch nights taking place all over Dorset.

Back in October I created a promo image for Growbags by driving to the top of a multi-storey car park, standing in a growbag and taking photos.

growbagspromo.jpg

Continuing the public insanity theme for the flyer - I took photos of myself dressed in a suit, in the January rain, wearing sunglasses, with my bare feet in a growbag. For each shot I had to run around the camera, set the self timer and run back...

growbagsflyer.jpg

For this project we also created a beer mat using the original promo image. I like to think my feet are supporting glasses and mugs all over Dorset.

I suppose it's not a 'normal' day job, but it beats reading the FT on a packed tube.

See here for the complete picture.

2nd Birthday

Posted by Rob in design lotion

Rob

I've recently been working on a website called 2ndbirthday.co.uk

It's a community based project we are setting up to try create a venue for the arts in Bournemouth. We're all bored of having nowhere to go, nothing to see.

So if it ain't working try and fix it!!

The concept is that we make a center for the arts by offering the venue out to the community.

You pledge something (time, money, your Gran) to support the venue and in return you get a 2nd birthday at the venue, at which you can programme your own night of entertainment... artistic or otherwise.

Now it's not only the queen that has a 2nd birthday.

Why not click here and register?
