When crediting photographers on a design is it wrong to use the phrase 'front bottom image by: ...'?

Just thought I'd check.

Ikea Surprise

Posted by Rob in i survived

ikea.jpg

After a shopping trip to Ikea I've reached a level of existential enlightenment I'd never thought I'd attain.

No longer am I taking small things for granted.

To buy a pint of milk is a luxury:

Should you not have to choose your cow, find your cow, pay for your cow (if it's in stock) take it home (use your own transportation means) read the instructions on how to milk it, realise that you've only bought 1 half of the milk receptacle, phone the helpline, get other half of milk receptacle delivered, proceed to milking cow, collect milk, have a nice sit down and a cup of tea, realise milk is off, cow is faulty, transport cow to returns department, take ticket, cue for half an hour with cow, return cow now with a 30% deduction as you have used cow and it's not in it's original cow packaging, go home, no milk... choose cow, find cow...

I suppose the cow was cheap though.

Name My Plant... The Results

Posted by Rob in brain pulp

Well, there's been an overwhelming response to the name my plant competition.

After a week of frantic voting the winner by a clear margin with 44.4 % of the vote is 'Veronica'.

Congratulations go to Becca Gill, who, for her effort wins an 'email'.

Well done Becca.

Top Gun Mo'

Posted by Rob in brain pulp

I have a theory in life that you just don't mess with anyone who has outrageous hair 'stylings'.

Take the mullet for example. Anyone brave enough to pull this off obviously has more important (violent) things on their mind than worrying about what their hair is doing.

With this in mind I grew a moustache for the hubalicious launch event (see post below) knowing full well how this would garner me respect in the 14-18 age bracket.

There was no trouble that night, which I think was mainly due to my moustache, although my mo' can't take full credit as the security did an admirable job.

Apparently I look like 'Goose' out of Top Gun... I can't see the resemblance though.

Think I might grow a flat-top as well.

Hubalicious Launches!

Posted by Rob in hope

Hubalicious is a project I've been involved since its start in January, it's a web site for promoting the arts in Bournemouth & Poole to young people.

It's created and run by 14-17 year olds who, last night programmed and ran the launch event at Mr Kyps.

It's amazing what they achieve as a team, particularly in light of the current tabloid view of young people.

Broken Social Scene (H.M.S. B.S.S.)

Posted by Rob in brain pulp

Went to see B.S.S. at the Thekla Social in Bristol Last night. It wasn't a brilliant gig, but it was definitely different.

The Thekla is a boat, and you can get around the venue using a variety of different stairs and gangways.

My personal highlights were:

  • Unknowingly asking the lead singer (Kevin Drew) where 'The Gents' were...
  • Same lead singer trying to get everyone to go swimming at the end of the gig and 'come together through some giant infectious disease group hug' (at the hospital)
  • Cause=Time

Raid My Head

Posted by Rob in brain pulp

Douglas Adams said that he used to measure how long it took to write a book not in the amount of days, but by the amount of baths he took.

I'm currently measuring the amount of time to complete projects by the amount of looped plays of the new Radiohead album - In Rainbows .

It's turned into a 42 minute sound mash.

I love my plant. It's the Steve McQueen of plants.

It needs a name... Chuck Norris? No! Lee Marvin? No! ...?

Wooden Spoon

Posted by Rob in design lotion

Every year Camps International presents an award called 'the wooden spoon' for the person who's made the biggest amount of errors in the year.

This year Skippy (Michelle) won. All other graphic deadlines stopped to produce this...
