Glastonbury... Spoon Of Doom!Posted by Rob in i survived |
|
After last year's mud hell, I was tentative about going back to Glastonbury. However a free ticket in exchange for 4 hours of puppetry a day seemed like a fair deal.

I made 3 children cry and scared 2 people who were ‘happy’.
Some of the more popular routines:
My musical Glastonbury highlight had to be Seasick Steve , the 21st century blues man. 3 people back from the front and you could still smell the roadkill.

Thanks to Martin Coyne for the photo.

The (Hub)world of workPosted by Rob in design lotion |
|
Hubworld is almost upon us and I thought I'd squeeze in an update to my portfolio, something I'm getting less opportunity to do recently...
The design for this project developed quite a lot after the promo image back in January:

Taking the photos on the beach helped focus the concept:

Resulting in the final brochure and supporting flyers:

The hub map I produced last year (or as some call it 'the hub brain') has been published in The Journal Of Arts Marketing.
Always nice to see your work published. Hubalicious (the youth web design group I work with) are also mentioned.

Complex SimplePosted by Rob in Whos Learning |
|
Yesterday I worked at The Study Gallery with their young curators group.
They are putting on an exhibition titled 'Messages' that displays many exciting and different ways of communication... some of which can be seen here . (If you haven't taken part in Futureself , do it!)
We're going to produce a flyer, poster, invite and several magazine adverts.
Anyway during the workshop, I was talking about the principles of design and how a simple idea can be the most effective, yet a simple idea doesn't mean it's any less complex.
They coined the phrase 'Complex, Simple'.

We came up with the idea of wrapping up a messenger pigeon to represent 'Messages'...
Complex, Simple?

Castles Made of SandPosted by Rob in i survived |
|
I spent yesterday on the beach building sandcastles and taking photos for the hubworld project. Only 2 people asked me what I was doing this time... I must be slipping.

Whilst walking back to my car two young boys were kicking over the sandcastles.

Growbags: Solo Design InsanityPosted by Rob in design lotion |
|
I've just been updating my portfolio with recent work. A large chunk of what I've been doing recently is for a project called Growbags.
Growbags are performance scratch nights taking place all over Dorset.
Back in October I created a promo image for Growbags by driving to the top of a multi-storey car park, standing in a growbag and taking photos.

Continuing the public insanity theme for the flyer - I took photos of myself dressed in a suit, in the January rain, wearing sunglasses, with my bare feet in a growbag. For each shot I had to run around the camera, set the self timer and run back...

For this project we also created a beer mat using the original promo image. I like to think my feet are supporting glasses and mugs all over Dorset.

I suppose it's not a 'normal' day job, but it beats reading the FT on a packed tube.
See here for the complete picture.
